Choosing a rangehood

Here are some tips from Buyrite Appliances to consider when choosing the best rangehood for your kitchen.

Rangehoods are great for removing excess heat and steam, as well as creating an added feature to your kitchen.
There are three things to consider when choosing an optimal rangehood for your kitchen:
1. Make sure when you choose your rangehood that it has good suction. If you get a low suction motor, it will have to work harder to push the air through the ducting, putting the motor under pressure and making it much louder than it should be. Rangehoods suction starts as low as 500m2 of suction per hour, but a recommended suction for a family kitchen is 760m2 per hour to ensure all odours are removed. If you enjoy cooking with lots of herbs, spices and oils, it is recommended to get a suction of 1200m2 per hour.

1. You need to have good static pressure. The static pressure will vary from rangehood to rangehood, even if it has the same suction, as the suction is calculated on output (rear of the unit) whereas static pressure is calculated on input (filters). If the filter covers a large area, the static pressure will be less due to the suction having to cover such a large area. Therefore, a small filter area is ideal for more static pressure.

1. Make sure that you choose the size of your rangehood carefully. For example, if you have a 600mm hob, it is better to buy a 600mm rangehood; if you own a 750mm hob, buy a 900mm rangehood. It is not a fixed rule, but if you have a 750mm hob, it is not a good idea to buy a 600mm rangehood. The great thing about rangehoods is that there is a very large amount of designs and sizes for all budgets.
