2021 People's Choice Awards: Kitchen of the Year

Your favourite kitchen renovations of 2021!

Winning kitchen project

Kitchens require a delicate balance between style and function. Check out the winners of the 2021 People’s Choice Awards for Kitchen of the Year to see who served up an award-winning design!
Gold Award: Full Coastal Home Renovation and Extension in Wellington by Nick Leko
Situated by the sea meant this award-winning kitchen renovation was inspired by a coastal design. But, careful placement of dark industrial tones ensured this 1960s family home had a contemporary vibe to it as well.
Reconfiguration of the existing wall layout created a spacious kitchen and dining area, with high pitched ceilings and light timber floors adding to the bright and airy space.
Triple-panel sliding doors in the dining area open up to the deck letting in fresh air and natural light, while providing spectacular views. A gas cooktop, large fridge, and high-end fixtures round out this beautiful entertaining space.

Silver Award: Maximising Sunlight and Modernising Interiors in Havelock North by Sophie Roydhouse-Ross and Mike Ross
Spacious, modern, light, and functional proved to be the perfect recipe for modernising this Havelock North kitchen. An improved layout, finished in soft neutrals, adds to the room’s fresh and welcoming feel, making it an ideal space for entertaining. A prominent, central island/breakfast bar provides ample seating, while an adjacent semi-formal dining area extends the kitchen, connecting the space with the living room. Stainless appliances, subtle splashbacks, timber flooring, and overhead lighting provide contemporary finishing touches.

Bronze Award: A modern home renovation in Frankston North, Melbourne by Leigh McDonald
In Melbourne’s stylish Frankston North neighbourhood, stainless steel and chic pendant lights may say industrial, but this post-war kitchen design, with a combination of timber and tile floors, certainly feels warm and inviting. The new, well-thought through layout has ensured smart use of space, creating plenty of room for function and entertaining. White upper cabinets contribute to the openness and contrast seamlessly with the lower, black shaker cabinets, a modern departure from traditional white.
