Your favourite whole house renovations of 2021!
To be totally unrecognisable was the purpose of these transformations. And, if there weren't photos to show the transformation, we couldn’t be sure they were the same homes. Check out which projects you voted as the winners of the 2021 People’s Choice Awards Whole House of the Year.
Gold Award: Maximising Sunlight and Modernising Interiors in Havelock North by Sophia Roydhouse-Ross and Mike Ross
Modern, bright, and chic. These three simple elements underpinned this award-winning home’s transformation, but the result is anything but simple. Natural light now pours into an open kitchen/dining room, previously separated by a solid wall. Two contrasting lounges offer differing relaxed atmospheres, one cosy, one conversational, while a decorative archway has been straightened to reinforce the home’s fresh modern interior. The home’s bathrooms also received a makeover. The result? A sleek new bathtub, floating vanity, dual shower heads and underfloor heating. It’s no wonder, this beautiful Havelock North home was voted winner of Whole House of the Year!
Silver Award: Full home renovation - a Wellington Wonder by Mark Morrison
From a waning weatherboard home to a Wellington wonder, this incredible renovation ensured this property reached its full potential. A kitchen extension created space for a scullery, central island, and casual seating, while the carport conversion saw the creation of a garage, games room and foundations for an upstairs deck. The master bedroom gained a walk-in wardrobe while each bedroom was given an interior refresh and double glazed for Wellington warmth. Finished to a high standard throughout, this home’s transformation is worthy of second place.
Bronze Award: A full house renovation in Melbourne by Leigh McDonald
The results of this award-winning renovation raised the roof - literally! Once considered for demolition, the renovation of this family home, which included a new pitched roof with scissor trusses, is proof there can be life left in any old home. Modern kitchen, dining and lounge areas now offer open plan living, a refreshed ensuite bathroom brings the master bedroom up to date, while outside, luxurious elements have been combined to provide year-round entertainment space on this formerly tired lifestyle block.
