Space Saving Storage Solutions

Make the most of space in your home with these great storage ideas!

Storage solutions for the home

Storage is essential in all our homes; however, no matter how much we know that we need it, the chances are that we will find fitting in hard to do.
This means that we need to get clever with our storage space. Perhaps even utilising some of the less obvious spots for storage. One example of this can be found under the stairs.
The under-stairs space is somewhat wasted for many people, a spot that you simply cannot use. However, this doesn't have to be the case. To help to show you what we mean, we have put together some of the very best storage ideas to help you to make the most of your under stairs storage.

Under stair storage

One of the best things you can do when it comes to your under stairs storage is to use the space to build your own storage closets. This will help you make the most of the space you have, but you will also be able to ensure that the closet options you build are precisely the correct size.
You can also use the entire length of your stairs as storage, creating more enormous closets at the top end, where you will find more space and smaller, shorter cabinets down the bottom end where the stairs meet the floor.

Leave it open

Just because you want to use an area of your home for storage doesn't mean that you have to close it off. An open storage space works just as well as a closed storage space.
Not only this, but an open storage space means that you can see what you have available. It also means that the things you are storing are easy to grab too.
If you are worried about not looking stylish, you can use coloured storage boxes or storage boxes with prints and patterns on them, as this will bring colour, texture, and fun to the space.

Use it for shoes

Shoes are necessary for every home, but they can be a nuisance mainly when they build up and need a place to be stored.
It can be hard to think of the perfect place to store these pesky shoes away; but, what you may not realise is that the solution has been staring you in the face the whole time.
Your under stairs space is the ideal place to store your shoes. Not only does it allow you to utilise this space in a way that keeps your home clutter-free and neat, but your shoes are also going to be easy to reach before you leave the house.
Much like the first point in our post, you can get hands-on and build your very own cabinet storage under your stairs, specifically for your shoes. Or, if you prefer,  you could get some expert help and advice in creating it.

Fitted Wardrobes

Fitted wardrobe and cabinetry around the home can create efficient space without encroaching too much into the liveable spaces. This is a great way to add storage to a home with limited existing storage, and many homeowners opt for creating a guest room into a walk in wardrobe with a pull out bed to clear space in the bedroom and make every night feel like a hotel stay!

Tuck in a sideboard

Not everyone wants a permanent solution to their storage needs. Sometimes you want something that can be moved around as needed or that you can change when you want to.
This is where a sideboard can help. They can be slotted anywhere in the home and not only are helpful for storage, but they are also great to look at.

Home library designs

As well as sideboards, bookcases can be as temporary or permanent as you desire. Books are somewhat like shoes; you want to have them in your home, but they can soon build up and prove tricky to know where to store them.
Not only can you have a temporary bookcase if you like that idea, but you can also add in a more permanent solution, such as building book friendly shelves that you can use as storage.
Getting creative with different shelf heights can be a great way to mazimise bookshelf storage and creating consistent visual aesthetic with your books.

Add drawers

Another storage idea that you can put in place under your stairs is drawers. Drawers are great for hiding away various things, and they can be tailored to fit in with your needs.
This is especially true if you purpose build your drawers to fit in with your under stairs storage. All because you will have items in mind and know how much space that you need to create.

Transform it into a pantry

You may think that you can only have a pantry in your kitchen; however, this is not the case. Pantries can be incredibly useful throughout your home, so long as they are not too far away from where you prepare your food.
The chances are that your stairs are not too far from your kitchen, which means that it is the prime location for your pantry. Not only this, but because there are no windows, you can create a perfect, dark space to store various canned and packet goods.

Playroom storage

Another thing that can soon clog up your home is kids. Kids have many toys and accessories that can build up over time and make it look messy. You may wonder exactly where is best to store all those things without taking up too much of your home.
Opting for quirky child friendly designs are a cute way to integrate your childrens toys into the design of the home. Not only does it mean that you can hide away their toys, but it also means that they can see where they are and access them. This is particularly true if you use open storage items such as clear storage boxes with labels to help them find just what they are looking for.

Store your pet

Okay, so storage isn't the right word here; what we mean is to use your under stairs space to create a spot for your pet to call their own. You don't need much to do this; a pet bed is enough.
You could also use this space to store your pets toys and anything else that they may need—ensuring that everything you need is hidden away and in one place for them.
Whatever you decide to do, one thing is sure; your stairs space doesn't have to be wasted. Think about how you can use the space for storage and make sure that the rest of your home is as neat and tidy as it can be.
All without having to lose any precious room that you have in your home. It really is a win/win situation for both you and your home.
