Sourcing the right LED lighting for your home can be a daunting process if you are unsure of what you are looking for.
Sourcing the right LED lighting for your home can be a daunting process if you are unsure of what you are looking for.
However, buying from reputable sources and doing a small amount of research can save you a lot of money in the long term.
Many of the less reputable, cheaper LEDs on the market use cheap componentry, which directly affects lamp performance and longevity.
The product may claim to be rated for 50,000 hours, but if the power supply is only rated at 20,000 hours, the LED will die prematurely. Ask your electrician or LED retailer about the power supply and diode installed to alleviate any concerns.
Always make sure you’re buying quality componentry and assembly with the necessary legal compliance for the market. Otherwise, walk away. You will be disappointed.
The amount of visible light emitted by a source divided by how much energy it takes to produce is important. High quality LED fittings are now exceeding the performance of 50 watt halogens using only a fraction of the energy and lasting for up to 50 times longer without any maintenance.
The performance benchmark for a standard LED down light is around 650+ lumens produced by around 10 watts (meaning a ratio of 65+ lumens per watt). Anything significantly lower than 65 lumens per watt should be avoided if possible.
