Cemix has started to utilise Quick Response (QR) codes in the building industry. QR codes are placed onto all of Cemix packaging to enable smartphone users (and QR code readers) to get instant access to information and data sheets. QR code technology is used by some airlines to read boarding passes, and QR codes storing addresses and URLs are becoming more common in magazines, on signs, on buses, on business cards, or on almost any object about which users might need information.
Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application can scan the image or the QR code to display text, access contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the phone’s browser. QR code readers can be downloaded free onto most smartphones, with apps available for iPhones, Androids and BlackBerrys.
