The carefully planned design features of this kitchen have resulted in a personalised and stylish space.
This villa’s kitchen wasn’t consistent with the look the clients wanted for their open plan living area, so Auckland renovation specialist Dave Georgetti worked with his Project Manager Lara and the homeowners to carry out a kitchen design and installation that worked for them, while also refreshing the surrounding area in which it sits.
“The customers’ existing kitchen would have been very "state of the art" in its day, but such statement kitchens tend to date relatively quickly”, explains Dave. “Refresh worked with the clients and designer to achieve simple and clean lines, in contrast with the previous kitchen which was over-designed by today's tastes. Being in a darker corner of the room, we worked with a much lighter palette than the previous kitchen, with warm whites on both cabinets and benchtops.
Once Dave’s clients had approved the kitchen’s new design as well as the associated costs and project timeframe, Lara scheduled in their team of tradespeople. This included a builder, plumber, tiler, plasterer/painter and floor polisher. From there, she managed the project - ensuring the quality, timeline and costs stayed in line with the project plan and the customers’, expectations.
As the kitchen manufacturer was in the process of relocating during the renovation, there were delays in the delivery of the kitchen’s benchtops. However, within a two month period, the kitchen was completely replaced and now features melamine panelled cupboards, textured white tiles and white composite stone benchtops. The walls were repainted, and the floors throughout the kitchen, living and dining area were re-stained and polished.
A particularly unique aspect of this kitchen is the effect of the LED lighting/tile combination under the cupboards and the bench overhang; Dave explains:
“The tile chosen for the splashback and the front of the island has an undulating surface which helps to throw light from the hidden LED strips around the room. At the same time, the down-lighting emphasises the depressions in the tiles for a more textured look”
It allows the focus to be on the clients’ accessories, art and furniture
The otherwise very white scheme is anchored with the clients’ selection of black accents in tapware, light fittings and appliances, adding some drama while keeping the kitchen significantly lighter than its original. The overall effect is a light and open, personalised and stylish space.
“I love the pared-down design of the kitchen so that it looks really smart in the corner of the open plan living space”, concludes Dave. “It allows the focus to be on the clients’ accessories, art and furniture.”
