This busy family of seven needed some help coming up with a home renovation design and build that would perfectly suit their lifestyle needs. Refresh Renovations Specialists Mandy and Lawrie Foster met with them to discuss their ideas in a free consultation and worked with them to develop their priorities and wish-list into a feasible plan.
“This was an internal cosmetic surgery and involved every room of the house”, explains Mandy.
Mandy and Lawrie helped the family to develop a detailed and personalised design that met their needs. From there, they worked on the finer details of the design to figure out ways to ensure that it could be carried out within the family’s budget. Once this was achieved, the family approved it and the works began.
The Fosters scheduled in their team of experts: from demolition specialists and carpenters through to flooring installers and decorators. In total, the project required the skills of more than 10 trades - all of whom Mandy and Lawrie supervised, to ensure the result would be in-line with their client’s expectations.
The project involved updating the layout of the kitchen, dining room and adjoining family room. To create consistency across the new open-plan spaces, new flooring was installed, the lighting was updated and the home interior was completely repainted.
The bathroom and ensuite were updated to suit the needs of a large modern family. In the main bathroom, the layout was re-designed and the colour palette updated to a light, spacious-feeling interior with black accents. The main features of the bathroom are the rather luxurious freestanding back-to-wall bathtub and the spacious Robertson Verona 1200 x 900 sliding door shower.
Essential to this project was creating a rumpus room for the five children to enjoy. The garage presented an opportunity for this. Its original concrete floor was updated with a cosy carpet and the interior was converted into a modern, habitable space with recessed lighting, new powerpoints, updated paint and more. The laundry was also taken out of what is now the rumpus room, and given its own separate location.
After two months of work, the happy family of seven were presented with their modern, functional abode; one week before Christmas. The garage was a standout for the family, tells Mandy, adding:
“It was an awesome project with a great result. Our team loved the new layout in the living areas, especially the kitchen and dining areas. The tiled entrance-way leading into the kitchen and dining room look fantastic and the satin white kitchen cabinetry with a black negative detail around the top are great features.”
For the children, who had no idea that their home was being renovated, it was quite the Christmas present.
“The five children did not know what was happening in their home so we were able to hand the house back to them just before Christmas”, says Mandy. “There were some very excited children!”
