A Victorian home's deck update

When the owners of this magnificent double fronted c1895 Victorian home met with Marcus Smith from Refresh Renovations in Melbourne, they were in disarray about their unusable outdoor entertaining area. 
After Marcus’ initial visit to their home, it was soon discovered that they had good reason to be disheartened. No covering to the area made it very impractical in Melbourne’s climate and there were big problems with water damage caused by substandard guttering and drainage. This resulted in water entering the living room when it rained.

A new deck design

A new concept was designed between them that would allow the family to enjoy the area all year round.

Deck extension

The Merbau decking was extended to create a more serviceable space, an Ultimate Louvre Roof system was installed for keeping the decking cool in summer and allowing natural light and warmth in; all while keeping the ground dry in the winter months. To complement the space, Marcus and his team installed a high-performance slimline strip heater and a first-class motorised blind that now filters the light and weather on the western side. New windows, weatherboards and stairs were also added along the back of the home. 

Final result

The newly improved deck area brings a relaxed, luxury element to the home. Overlooking the family swimming pool, the deck provides plenty of space for Marcus’ clients to entertain. The louvre roof means that they can adjust their outdoor environment to suit the weather.
The finished modern enhancements to this beautiful home are remarkable. Marcus and his team are extremely proud of the results.
