The project involved renovating a 1990s kitchen to create a functional and modern space for the client and her family. The primary goal was to address pain points within the original layout like a lack of bench space and hard-to-access corner cupboards.

Apart from that, they also required a clean, minimal design that complemented the home’s stunning lake views. The client contacted Kathleen Magon of Solasta Ltd, a Refresh Renovations® franchise to ensure the renovation delivered on functionality and aesthetics while staying within budget.

The team worked closely with the homeowners to design a warm, neutral kitchen that would remain practical for years to come.

Major Challenges

While the project ran smoothly overall, a few minor challenges arose during the renovation. Several items from the supplier either arrived damaged or were missing from deliveries. The team promptly addressed these issues. It helped to achieve no significant delays that impacted the project timeline.

Another design challenge involved maximizing storage space while maintaining a clean and minimal look. The original kitchen had disjointed cabinet levels and corner cupboards that were difficult to access.

Design Highlights

The renovation gave the kitchen a fresh look and improved its functionality. The disjointed cabinetry was replaced with sleek, unified cabinets extending to the ceiling, providing ample storage. A laminate benchtop was chosen for its contemporary appeal and cost-effectiveness, while warm timber-look flooring and beige cabinets added a welcoming atmosphere.

To improve usability, several smart storage solutions were included. A peanut pullout system improved access to corner cupboards, while a double-bin pull out near the sink added convenience. A dedicated pullout rack for oils and spices was installed beside the cooktop for easy access. LED strip lighting was added above the worktop to improve visibility and create a more user-friendly workspace.

Project Execution

The renovation was completed in just under seven weeks, aligning perfectly with the homeowners' request to have the kitchen ready before their family visit during the school holidays.

The project stayed within the budget, with final costs totaling $61,437.14, slightly above the initial range of $58,800 to $65,000. Budget-conscious decisions, such as retaining existing appliances and choosing cost-effective finishes, allowed for investments in high-impact features like smart storage pullouts and electrical upgrades.

With careful planning and expert execution, Kathleen Magon and her team of Refresh Renovations delivered a functional, inviting kitchen space that exceeded the homeowners' expectations, enhancing both their daily life and their enjoyment of the home.

Client Feedback

The client was thrilled with the final result, praising the improved functionality and aesthetic appeal of the kitchen. The unified cabinetry, practical storage solutions, and warm, neutral color palette created a space that feels both inviting and highly usable. The kitchen’s transformation allowed the client to enjoy the space more fully and host her family comfortably during their visit.
