Bathroom Renovation Improves Accessiblity in Mt Wellington, Auckland

This Mt Wellington property had been recently purchased as part of the client’s plan to downsize, but space needed to be created to ensure the home was more comfortable and accessible for a wheelchair user. Given that this bathroom was designed to be accessible, it required Building Consent to ensure compliance with safety and accessibility standards.

The bathroom was a key space that needed to allow for room to manouvre a wheelchair while remaining stylish and functional for other family members. Calling upon the expert help of Auckland Refresh Renovations Consultant, Maree de Latour, the bathroom was transformed into not only an accessible space but a contemporary washroom that showcased finishing touches with flair.

To achieve a successful total refit of the bathroom, the original was demolished and the bath removed. The existing vanity was also taken out, and the heated towel rail removed also.

Installed in its place was a cavity slider that has allowed for easy access to the bathroom which now boasts a toilet with bidet seat, walk-in tiled shower, and safety glass. A free hanging vanity provides greater space within the bathroom, while overhead mirrored cupboards ensure a provision of storage remains.

The finishing touches are oversized black fixtures which give a subtle yet Scandinavian-inspired pop of style, complemented seamlessly by large neutral-coloured tiles. The result? A contemporary bathroom that provides accessibility for its users.
