With the help of Kathleen, a Refresh Renovations Consultant, we completed a project in Wānaka, New Zealand giving the house a fresh new look with a partial reclad designed to protect the home’s structural integrity.
This Wānaka home was showing signs of water ingress from the home’s exterior highlighting concerns about weather tightness of the building. With the help of Kathleen, a Refresh Renovations Consultant, they initiated a project that would resolve the issues with the home’s structural integrity without invasive changes that would trigger costly building consent requirements.
Major Challenges
The desired reclad solution posed its own complexities as it needed to avoid invasive work that could increase costs. This meant looking at a solution that was able to be fitted over the existing cladding. After some thorough exploration by the team an option was selected. A product called WeatherClad 21 was chosen, this a specialized powder-coated aluminium system designed for Lockwood homes. By using this option, the team resolved weather tightness issues effectively while maintaining the home’s aesthetic appeal. During the course of these construction works so minor interior damage whilst working on the dormer area was swiftly rectified with minimal inconvenience to the homeowners.
Design Highlights
Available in 12 attractive colours the WeatherClad 21 system delivers a fresh modern look. The homeowners selected a light exterior color to create more of a dynamic contrast with the roof and enhance natural light reflection in outdoor spaces. The WeatherClad 21 system provided a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution while preserving the home’s distinctive Lockwood profile.
As there was very little demolition required for this project (aside from the front porch area) The project had a very short construction period as opposed to a typical reclad project. The reclad was completed within the expected three-week timeline, ensuring the home was protected before winter. The fixed-price approach gave the homeowners peace of mind, and in this instance, there were no unexpected costs that arose during the process.
Kathleen and her team managed every aspect of the projects, from recommending the final solution, planning for construction and ensuring that the site was left fully operational with things like all downpipes reconnected for a fully complete project. The attention to detail and frequent communication ensured a smooth and stress-free experience for the homeowners.
Client Feedback
The homeowners praised Kathleen and her team for their quality of workmanship and for providing them with a solution that matched their needs and avoided the need to go through an invasive reclad process. They were very impressed that the weather tightness issues were able to be resolved through a low maintenance solution meaning that the home will give them many more years of enjoyment.
Final Thoughts
This reclad renovation project demonstrates the need of having the right product for the job. This specialist system designed for Lockwood homes has now provided a fresh layer of protection for the home against the increasing intensity of weather storms. It has ensured the longevity of the home and enhanced the home’s value, street appeal and livability.
