Creating more space was the driving factor behind Sarah and Jeremy’s slow but steady full home renovation and garage conversion in Torbay, North Shore.

When Sarah and Jeremy’s garage flooded.. again… the couple decided enough was enough. Something needed to be done to ensure their home was protected against rising waters and flood damage was minimised. The couple decided to convert their garage into a bedroom and ensuite and ensure it was future fit against any flooding.

The garage wasn’t the only part of the home undergoing a makeover. Sarah and Jeremy wanted to create more space in their home for their growing family and achieve more equity in their property. Over a slow but steady four year period they started at the top and worked their way through the home.

No stone left unturned

Very little part of their home was left untouched during this significant home renovation. Walls were moved, a toilet was added downstairs, a new kitchen was installed, and new flooring laid. Then there was the addition of new LED lights, a fresh coat of paint, new carpet and a new bathroom upstairs as well.

Outside, they built a new deck with pergola, installed Rhino blinds close to the outdoor area, added in outdoor heating, extended the car park, and erected new fencing. Furthermore they also made the property Healthy Homes Compliant. To protect against flooding, they levelled the backyard, put in drainage to stop flooding, and installed tiger turf.

Calling upon contractors

As Renovation Consultants themselves, they knew that all of what they wanted to achieve required professional tradespeople to be on the job. They reached out to their trusted network of skill contractors including a draughtsman, LBP, builders, electricians, plumbers, drainlayers, landscapers and a digger driver to bring their renovation plans to fruition.

Worth the wait

While the project wasn’t without its challenges - Jeremy and Sarah were living in the home while it was getting renovated, had a baby the day the kitchen came out, and had to set up a makeshift but working kitchen outside on the deck - the four year wait was worth it.

Their Torbay home is simply stunning.

The sleek, modernist kitchen is a nod to Scandinavian style, with minimalist lines, monochrome fixtures, and a geometric inspired backsplash. Natural light streams through the windows over the L-shaped bench which creates natural flow into the dining space.

A beautiful painted finish and natural timber-look flooring provide a warmth to the space, accented by sliding doors out onto the deck, where festoon lights hanging from the newly created pergola add to the ambience.

The bathrooms mimic the contemporary look of the kitchen with dark fixtures contrasting against white vertical subway tiled walls. Matching Jack and Jill basins sit on a floating vanity creating a sense of space and sanctuary.

No strangers to home renovations

Gaining a greater understanding and appreciation of the renovation process, and what it takes to achieve a stunning result, Sarah and Jeremy are now enjoying helping other homeowners make their renovation plans a reality as Renovation Consultants in North Shore.
