The homeowners of the Lockwood holiday home wanted a kitchen upgrade to enhance their living space. The outdated galley kitchen was impractical for daily use, and the homeowners were concerned that it was not meeting their needs as they were getting older. With the help of Kathleen, a Refresh Renovations Consultant, they initiated a project that would ensure that the kitchen space was going to provide them with ease of use for many years to come

The kitchen renovation prioritized usability and accessibility, with a design that incorporated smart storage solutions and durable finishes. A emphasis on drawers and pull outs guarantee its functionality.

Major Challenges

The kitchen renovation presented challenges like working around existing flooring and electrical cabling concealed within a partial wall. Removing the wall revealed extensive cabling that had to be rerouted, but the team efficiently adjusted the design to accommodate the changes. Also, delays in joinery and splashback production extended the timeline. However, the Refresh Renovations® team handled and communicated all of these delays, minimising the schedule impacts where possible.

Design Highlights

The kitchen design combined style and practicality. Smart pull-out storage and drawers made the space more accessible and eliminated the need to bend down for items. The team upgraded the benchtops to engineered stone and ensured durability. A Neff Hide and Slide Oven added a unique touch as is an ideal option to make the oven a very accessible fixture. The existing natural timber tones present in the space were a key consideration when choosing the colour scheme. A warm white was introduced together with brown tones in the benchtop, splashback and peninsula kickboard. When combined this design created a seamless connection between the kitchen and the home’s existing interior.

The kitchen renovation spanned 13 weeks, slightly longer than anticipated due to delays in material production. Despite these setbacks, the project remained on budget, with the homeowners opting for upgraded finishes that improved functionality and longevity.

Kathleen and her team managed every aspect of the projects, from design and planning to construction and final touches. Their attention to detail and clear communication ensured a smooth and stress-free experience for the homeowners.

Client Feedback

The homeowners praised Kathleen for her expertise and thoughtful approach, highlighting her ability to listen and incorporate their preferences into the final design. They were delighted with the improved accessibility and usability of their new kitchen, calling it a “game-changer” for their daily lifestyle.

Final Thoughts

The kitchen renovation project highlights the power of smart storage solutions and expert planning in improving a kitchen's functionality and ensuring that it is future-proofed. By addressing both the kitchen and exterior challenges, Kathleen and her team delivered a cohesive upgrade that enhances the home’s value and livability.
