This character home in Menora was overdue a makeover. A carefully planned renovation resulted in beautiful new spaces and a clean, contemporary look throughout.
Lee wanted to renovate her character Menora home to make it feel more modern and better suit her needs. She was not only wanting a fresh, new look, but better storage solutions - particularly in the wardrobe and kitchen. Lee contacted her local Refresh Consultants, Jason and Michelle Zielinski, for some expert advice and to learn more about the Refresh process.
Jason and Michelle met with Lee at her home to better understand the space and to listen to her goals for the renovation. They explained that as her dedicated consultants, they would manage every detail of the project from the design stage right through to final inspection. Plus, no building would begin until Lee was completely happy with the detailed plans and costings, so everyone could move forward confidently. This end-to-end service sounded perfect to Lee, so she welcomed Jason and Michelle on board, excited to begin planning her dream renovation.
Jason and Michelle’s design team got to work and drafted a beautiful concept for Lee focussing on her goal of increased space and modern aesthetics. The renovation would involve both converting existing rooms and creating new space by extending the home’s footprint.
Lee had a fabulous wine collection that she wanted to make more accessible and suggested taking some space from the formal dining room to convert into a walk-in-pantry. Jason and Michelle could see that this wouldn’t suit the character of her home, and instead advised an extension to the side of the house. The kitchen would also feature striking white Caesarstone benchtops giving it a crisp new look.
Upstairs, the bathroom and laundry would be completely renovated, and a room would be converted into a dressing room with custom built cabinetry.
Each element of the renovation would also require extensive work behind the scenes, including new skirtings, cornices, and architraves to match the existing character home features, fresh paint, structural carpentry to remediate existing issues, floor sanding, and installation of some new window features.
Jason and Michelle gave Lee budget range indications for each room so it was clear how each area would impact the overall cost of the renovation. This enabled Lee to decide what features she wanted to include. Once she was confident that she loved the plans, the exciting work could begin. Because the walk-in-pantry extension required council approval, the project was split into two to allow the team to move forward with the work in phases.
The renovation required a huge range of professionals, including a stone mason, roof tiler, window fitter and glazer, multiple specialty carpenters, gyprocker, and concreter. Of course, new plumbing and electrical work was also required, as well as flooring and painting. With so many moving elements, a tight working schedule was crucial to the success of the renovation, and Michelle and Jason oversaw every detail flawlessly from the council consent process, to managing unforeseen problems such as issues with the floorboards using their trusted network of local contractors and professionals.
Jason and Michelle worked wonders on Lee’s dated home, delivering clever use of space, high end finishes, and a beautiful blend of traditional character elements and modern design. The kitchen wows with waterfall stone benchtops and cabinetry in white, contrasting with the rich timber flooring. The walk-in-pantry delivers all the storage Lee hoped for and more, including space for the wine collection.
Upstairs, a custom dressing room is a fashionista’s dream, with a mix of open storage, closed drawers, and screeds of vanity space. Likewise, the new laundry room boasts miles of bench top, built in washer and dryer, feature tile, and even a handy sink.
The bathroom looks luxurious, with its sleek modern design including a walk-in frameless shower, black and white fittings, custom tile, and a unique stone chip floor. It is visually interesting and has masses of personality while still managing to feel relaxed and refined.
Lee’s home is a beautiful example of how a renovation can transform dated design into stylish and functional spaces that are a joy to live and work in. Jason and Michelle worked closely with Lee to meet her renovation goals, by prioritising storage space and a stunning contemporary black and white look.
“Carrying the colours scheme throughout the house makes everything look sharp and modern,” says Michelle. “From the feature Caeserstone benchtops and kitchen appliances to the black and white bath and basin, everything was carefully considered and the results are amazing.”
