Open-plan kitchen extension and remodel in Surrey

Surrey renovation specialist Kelley Malcher worked with the owners of this home to create a family-friendly kitchen, dining and living room. After meeting with the clients, it was decided that the best way to achieve their ideal open-plan kitchen design would be to carry out an extension on the rear of the home. They also decided to remodel their home’s ground floor in the process.

Kitchen design

Working with Refresh meant that the homeowners didn’t need to worry about liaising between multiple tradespeople, figuring out the project’s costings and maintaining the consistency of their design across the planning and building stages. Kelley took care of all of this for them - planning the design with them, providing a cost estimate and then scheduling in the trades to carry out the project. She also supervised the construction and installation - ensuring that every detail was in-line with her customer’s design specifications.

Dining room and kitchen renovation

Following construction work on the rear of the house and the kitchen ceiling, Kelley collaborated with Porcelainosa (for the installation of new wood-effect, porcelain tiled flooring), Bosch (for the kitchen appliances) and Farrow & Ball for the “De Nimes” blue paint used in the dining room. The chic new high-gloss kitchen features quartz worktops, practical storage solutions and pops of colour to contrast with an otherwise soft colour scheme.

Underfloor heating provides additional comfort for the colder months, while aluminium bifold doors offer plenty of access to fresh air during the summer. High attention to detail was an important part of this renovation, down to finding the perfect wallpaper texture and colour which, in the case of the living room, was “Tobago Weave” from Thibaut’s Texture Resource collection. This attention to detail also extended to the installation of a glass balustrade for the home’s stairway, solid oak for the internal doors and anthracite aluminium for the front door - for maximum security.

Final results

Between the kitchen’s vaulted ceiling and the new bifold doors, the stylish new living areas are now bathed in natural light, without compromising privacy. The renovated spaces now radiate cohesive modernity, practicality and charm - perfect for a modern family.
