Mark Morrison and his team helped this Wellington homeowner achieve a bespoke ensuite design and bedroom mezzanine.
The owner of this original 1908 Wellington homestead brought in her local Refresh Renovations team due to concerns about rot under her home’s bathroom and laundry. Having worked with Refresh before on a kitchen renovation, she knew that she could entrust the project to them.
“I’d had my kitchen done with them and was very happy”, says the homeowner, of her previous renovation project. “I also think I would not have wanted to organise council permits, inspections and everything else myself.”
While her initial goal was to address issues surrounding rot, the homeowner quickly saw an opportunity to optimise her home’s guest room and move her existing laundry.
“I thought it would be nice to rearrange the space to have a second bathroom for my guestroom”, says the homeowner. “And I’d always wanted a loft!”
Working with Refresh meant that the homeowner could rely on a team of experienced professionals to take care of every stage of her project, including council consent applications and project management. She also didn’t need to worry about scheduling in and supervising the multiple tradespeople required for the project.
For the existing bathroom, local Renovation Specialist Mark Morrison and his team worked with the homeowner to achieve a modern bathroom design. This involved closing-in the bathroom, carrying out a shower-over-bath conversion and moving the laundry to the kitchen. They also installed a compact and rustic-style ensuite bathroom in the home’s spare room - making the space more inviting as a guest bedroom.
“I did enjoy working with them”, says the homeowner. “Megan did a great job - even with all of my last-minute changes. Also, the hard job to get the construction site livable for lockdown (mid-construction) was amazing!”
With the bathroom, ensuite and laundry renovation complete - the homeowner says that a few features turned out to be unexpected favourites.
“I really like the shower over the old bath. I never expected that I would like it that much. And the mini-laundry, which is accessed from the kitchen, is also very practical”.
To “freshen up” the guestroom, a new mezzanine level was built. This significantly adds to the functionality and spaciousness within the guest bedroom.
“My favourite space is the loft”, says the homeowner. “It worked out well. It is a very peaceful space.”
With the COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown taken into consideration, the renovation was completed within approximately 5 months.
“It looks really cool”, says Renovation Specialist Mark Morrison. “The mezzanine is awesome and the skylights really open the space up.”
