This extensive interior renovation leaves nothing to be desired, providing a contemporary design and smart tech upgrades throughout the home.
Stephen, the owner of this early 2000s Point Chevalier home, felt the property was dated and in need of major renewal. He wanted to introduce a more contemporary design and smart technology for improved functionality. So, he got in touch with local Renovation Partner Dave Georgetti for professional assistance.
To give the property a thorough refresh, Stephen wanted to renovate the kitchen, lounge, all three bathrooms, laundry room, and garage – along with additional improvements to the front exterior. With quite a hefty list, the project wouldn’t be small. But with Dave managing the entire process, Stephen didn’t need to worry about preparing the concepts, sourcing materials, and coordinating tradespeople. Instead, he was able to keep his focus on the greater vision.
Dave orchestrated the design process, helping Stephen establish the perfect concepts for his home’s transformation. And once the working drawings were finalised, the required budget was evaluated at $200,000. Stephen was happy to go ahead with this cost, especially knowing that Dave would carefully monitor all spending to ensure the project kept to the approved quote.
Throughout the renovation, Dave was Stephen’s single point of contact and kept him updated on all important information with straightforward communication.
As it was an extensive project, Stephen and his family moved out of their home for the build phase of five months. Since the home’s layout worked well, the renovation didn’t require any intensive structural changes, but there was plenty of work to be done.
Construction involved upgrading the kitchen, creating a scullery, reconfiguring all three bathrooms with updated interiors, installing a fitted workshop and laundry in the garage, and repainting throughout the entire home. Additionally, the home’s overall comfortability and functionality was improved with underfloor heating and an extended central vacuum system. And to complete the project, the walkway to the front door was retiled, creating a fresh look for the entrance.
Materials used include general building supplies from Mitre10, wall linings from GIB, joinery from Central Joinery, paint from Resene, tiles from Tile Depot, central vacuuming from Kiwivac, heating from The Heating Company, and kitchen supplies from The Kitchen Place.
As requested, this renovation integrated high-tech installations to improve overall functionality. The drawers and upper cabinets in the kitchen are powered by electric Servo-drive motors, allowing them to open and close with a simple touch. Stephen also managed to source a Samsung Family Hub 4-door fridge/freezer with a touchscreen on the front.
From a smartphone app, you can adjust the colour and brightness of the Philips Hue smart lighting found throughout the kitchen. This lighting makes a striking statement above the kitchen island. And for when your phone’s low on battery, the new Corian benchtops built-in wireless charging surface allows you to simply place your phone down for it to start charging.
LED lighting can be found in the bathrooms as well, positioned under each floating vanity. Controlled by motion sensors, the lighting provides a warm glow whenever you’re in the room.
While smart technology has made a tremendous difference to this home’s functionality, the updated interior design and high-end finishings have transformed the property into a contemporary retreat.
Timber flooring in a herringbone pattern runs throughout the main living areas and can be truly admired from the second floor’s view of the foyer. As the previous interior painting and wallpaper detracted from the striking architecture, the entire home has been refreshed with a soft neutral colour scheme and a deep-navy accent wall highlighting the grand staircase.
The bathrooms share a sophisticated style made of natural textures and colours. Dark floor tiles and wall tiling in a combination of lighter stones create an air of serenity. Meanwhile, exposed timber floating vanities and sleek bathware from Robertson Bathware provide luxurious additions.
And the kitchen? This room is undoubtedly the most exciting space in the renovated home. The kitchen has become a contemporary masterpiece, featuring a built-in wine chiller and adjoining scullery. Dark timber cabinetry and white stone Corian benchtops combine for a lavish look. All the while, luxury appliances, including a smart fridge, two ovens, and a five-burner gas stovetop, completely change the cooking experience. It’s indeed a kitchen to remember.
An interior design heavily focused on innovative tech features can easily feel cold. But Dave and his renovation team have done a masterful job of creating a welcoming home with contemporary style and technology. Most of the high-tech installations will go undetected with everyday use, as they’re primarily there for comfort. However, the Philips Hue smart lighting can easily make a statement when it’s wanted.
The bright and airy colour palette, smart technology, and high-end finishes found in this renovation have accomplished precisely what Stephen was after – 21st-century luxury.
