Minimalism and high quality are the perfect combination when it comes to creating luxury bathroom designs, as the owners' of this St Heliers home found.
Homeowner Ineke got in touch with Refresh Renovations after deciding she wanted to update four rooms of her home: her upstairs ensuite and family bathroom, as well as her downstairs water closet and laundry. Renovation specialist Dave Georgetti met with Ineke to discuss her ideas and what would be involved in making them happen.
Dave followed the Refresh process, presenting Ineke with a design inspired by the ideas they had discussed. They looked at the feasibility of the design in terms of cost, project timeframe, construction and installation. As Ineke and her family wanted to keep one bathroom in usable condition throughout the renovation, Dave extended the project timeframe from five weeks to eight. Ineke approved the design specifications, and the renovation work began.
“The rooms were stripped back to wall framing in most areas and rebuilt from the floor up”, tells Dave. “This included replacing the underfloor heating. The two upstairs bathrooms already had wing walls screening off their water closets. We decided to keep these and used a dark grey/brown hex tiles to contrast and texture to the rooms.”
Marble floor tiles were installed in the upstairs bathrooms, creating a simple yet luxurious colour palette. Downstairs, Ineke opted for large grey tiles. Looking up, subtle recessed lighting continues the minimal design of the bathrooms - with added mood lighting surrounding the mirrors and vanities.
Working with Dave and his team was very good. I would absolutely recommend them to my friends and family
“LED strip lights were used above the upstairs mirrors and under vanities to give a soft diffused glow when the main lights are off”, says Dave. “In all three bathrooms, the vanities were longer than standard sizes, and had to be custom-made. This allowed us to choose any colour from the Resene range. Combined with the owners' choice of handles, engineered stone tops and bowls, these units are unique to this house.”
In the laundry, a simple white and grey colour scheme was used. White overhead cabinets were installed, providing plenty of storage space, in addition to a floor-to-ceiling cupboard; as well as additional storage under the laundry sink.
As promised, Dave’s team completed the renovation within 8 weeks, within the originally quoted $95,000. Ineke and her family are extremely happy with the result.
“The downstairs cloakroom is probably one of my favourite features”, says Ineke. “I like that it’s minimal but also quite striking.”
“The wing walls with the hex tiles are a standout feature”, says Dave, “as is the colour coordination achieved through custom paint jobs on the vanities, picking out the colour in the tiles; including the marble veins. The LED lighting strips under the vanities and above the mirrors are also eye-catching.”
Her bathrooms and laundry complete, Ineke has only good things to say about Dave and his team.
“Working with Dave and his team was very good. I would absolutely recommend them to my friends and family.”
