This 1920s Point Chevalier home already had its interior renovated, except for the bathrooms. The homeowners wanted to provide a beautiful space and a functional ensuite
With two bathrooms the owners of this 1920s Point Chevalier villa wanted to modernise both the main bathroom and ensuite to better reflect the rest of their updated home’s design and their day-to-day needs.
Both bathrooms retained their original red-toned timber flooring, which would be coveted in many other rooms of the home, but not the bathroom. While the narrow layouts didn’t appear to offer much flexibility, the narrow capsule showers hindered the functionality of both bathrooms. Something had to change.
The homeowners got in touch with Renovation Consultants Jeremy and Sarah Lowe to discuss potential solutions to the renovation woes.
During their initial consultation, the homeowners expressed concern over budget blow-out, prolonged timelines, and disruptions to their daily lives. Jeremy and Sarah were able to put their minds at ease as they walked them through each step of the Refresh process.
To save on project management, which is built into every Refresh project, Jeremy and Sarah recommended executing both bathroom projects at the same time. However, they ensured one of the bathrooms would be functional at all times. After working through the plans, the couple was eager to get started.
The design, budget, and timeline were all finalised during the concepting and costing phases, at which point it was determined that, luckily, no council consent was required for their project to get started. Jeremy and Sarah got to work coordinating the initial demolition and moved forward with relining the walls, plumbing, tiling, painting, electrical, and all subsequent installations.
Despite being a relatively small project, there were nearly a dozen tradies needed to complete the job. The trade industry is highly competitive and many contractors are booked out weeks, sometimes even months, in advance. In addition to availability challenges, the bathtub turned up damaged, which Jeremy and Sarah mitigated as quickly as possible.
While the homeowners wanted to save on project management costs, had they opted to self-manage their bathroom renovation, they almost surely would’ve compromised their other priorities – no disruptions to their day and to finish the project on a strict timeline. Working with Jeremy and Sarah paid for itself in peace of mind alone.
Jeremy and Sarah delivered bathrooms that feel spacious and bright despite the spatial limitations. They even managed to fit a contemporary walk-in shower, complete with recessed shelf, in the ensuite.
The bathrooms share features, like timber vanities, but still unique designs. For example, the ensuite bathroom has a low profile sink to complement the modern toilet while the main bathroom’s sink basin ties in with the stunning soaker tub which, with its stunning fluted facade, was worth the wait.
They opted for diamond fusion glass which makes cleaning easier but achieves beautiful results. In the end, both bathrooms look cohesive yet individual and the entire family is thrilled with the results.
